Relief prints are usually started with an inspiration gained from the interplay of light and dark values, or a need to portray a particularly dramatic image in nature, or a need to simplify an image I find really startling. I enjoy the kinaesthetic feel of carving the linoleum with my cutting tools. I love the intuitive part of 'going with the flow' while I am carving and I often include distortion into the image. I like the process of planning, carving, inking, printing and curating the prints along with the colour and design decisions along the way that can really change the outcome of the finished work.
